A Heartfelt Goodbye and a Busy Week at SEA Sailmakers
This past week brought both somber reflections and continued dedication to our work. We began by bidding farewell to a close friend and valued member of the Phuket marine community, Jasper, who sadly passed away in his sleep. Jasper’s presence and contributions to the local sailing and marine industry were deeply felt, and his sudden passing has left a heartfelt void among us all. Friends, colleagues, and community members gathered over the weekend to pay their respects, showcasing the strength of the ties we share within the Phuket marine community. It was a reminder of the support we extend to each other in times of need.
Celebrations and Achievements on the Water
In lighter news, we extend our warm congratulations to Andy, who shared some incredible photos of his SEA Sails Lateen mainsail as he won the Triple Klown Trophy at the Delha Yacht Club. His impressive win aboard his agile outrigger catamaran brought smiles to the team, and we’re honored to have been a part of his success.
New Builds and Ongoing Projects
The loft has been buzzing with new projects and custom orders:
A Full Batten Mainsail crafted for our friends at AQUA Charters in Koh Chang, built with precision and durability to handle their active charter schedule.
Another Full Batten Mainsail was made for a custom charter yacht based in Chalong Bay—a bespoke sail tailored for peak performance and longevity.
Our team is hard at work on a complete sail set for a Beneteau Oceanis 46, a project that combines our craftsmanship with our passion for delivering sails that perform across long journeys and varying conditions.
Sail Repairs and Upholstery Projects
In addition to sailmaking, our repair and upholstery teams have been keeping busy:
Our repair team has tackled various Lagoon catamaran sail repairs, supporting our friends at Elite Yachting to keep their sails in top shape.
For Sunsail, we’re making cushions for their Leopard catamarans, adding a comfortable touch to enhance the sailing experience for their clients.
A Visit from an Old Friend
We were thrilled to welcome Liz from Bali back to the loft after five years. She brought in a tanbark headsail needing some care, a unique sail that’s always a pleasure to work with. Seeing old friends reminds us of the global reach of our sailing family and the many connections we hold dear.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on a week of both gratitude and loss, we’re reminded of the importance of community in everything we do. Whether it’s celebrating a racing victory or coming together in support of one another, the friendships and collaborations within the sailing community are a central part of our lives here in Phuket.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us. We’re here to create, repair, and contribute to the sailing journeys of friends near and far.
