S.E.A. Sailmakers – Loft Update: Sailmaking in Full Swing Despite Weather & Flu Season

It’s been a lively few weeks here in Phuket, with the monsoon weather rolling through and a wave of influenza making its way around the island. Even with a few people down, the team at S.E.A. Sailmakers has kept the loft buzzing and the sails moving out the door. We’re grateful for everyone’s hard work — and for our wonderful customers who keep trusting us with their boats, their sails, and their voyages.

Sea Trials & Fine Tuning

Robert has been out on the water several times recently, completing sea trials, testing new sails, and fine-tuning performance for our clients. There’s nothing quite like seeing fresh sails drawing beautifully in real conditions, and these trials help us ensure every sail leaves the loft perfectly dialled-in.

Repair Loft: Patching, Cleaning & Bringing Sails Back to Life

Our repair team has been in overdrive, giving some well-needed TLC to a wide mix of sails from monohulls and catamarans across Phuket.

We’ve carried out repairs, patches, UV replacements, deep cleaning, and reinforcement work for boats including:

  • Vessels from Sail in Asia,

  • Several boats from Simpson Yacht Charter,

  • A selection of Phuket-based private cruisers,

  • And a handful of local catamarans preparing for the upcoming season.

On top of that, our team — as the North Sails service loft in Phuket — has been busy strengthening a spinnaker in time for the King’s Cup Regatta this December. It’s always exciting to support boats heading into one of Asia’s premier sailing events.

New Sails Leaving the Loft

Despite the flu going around, our sailmaking team has produced an impressive lineup of new sails headed for destinations all over the world. Here’s what we’ve completed recently:

  • Roller Furling Jib for a Seawind 1160 Deluxe, soon to be sailing in Queensland, Australia

  • Furling Code Zero for our friends at @groupislandspirit for their brand-new Island Spirit 525

  • Asymmetrical Spinnaker for a Catalina 34 MKII, on its way to New Bern, North Carolina

  • Lazy Bag / Stack Pack for a Roughwater 33, heading to Mexico

  • Lazy Bag for our friend David in Hua Hin and his Pearson 36-2

  • Short Batten Mainsail for a Hood 23, now bound for Queensland, Australia

  • Short Batten Mainsail for a custom cutter — first stop Singapore, then onward to the USA

  • 145% Roller Furling Genoa for a Moorings 38, soon sailing the waters of British Columbia

  • Mainsail for a Jeanneau Sun Magic 44, ready for adventures in the Norwegian Fjords

  • Spinnaker for a Beneteau First 33.7, about to travel to Scotland

  • 135% Roller Furling Genoa for a custom yacht, boxed and ready for Oklahoma

  • High-Roach Mainsail for one of our friends from @groupislandspirit, designed for a Lagoon 400 S2

  • 125% Roller Furling Genoa for a Jeanneau Sun Magic 44, flying soon along the coast of Norway

  • Full-Batten Mainsail for a custom charter catamaran, set to sail the Andaman Sea

  • A bright orange A-riding sail for a 50-ft monohull — beautiful, bold, and very practical

  • Code Zero for a Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40, finished and ready to ship

Seeing these sails head off to so many corners of the world never stops being rewarding.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the busy season — and with the King’s Cup Regatta coming up — our team is gearing up for more new builds, more repairs, and plenty more sea trials.

No matter the weather or the challenges, we remain committed to building strong, reliable, beautifully-crafted sails for sailors everywhere.

Thanks as always for being part of the S.E.A. Sailmakers family.
Fair winds from all of us here in Phuket.
